The Power of Experiences
Dec 09, 2024When I was 15, I started my first business, printing architecture designs for students who struggled to find affordable, high-quality services. It wasn’t anything fancy… just me, a printer I saved 3 years to buy, and a desire to solve a problem I noticed around me. What began as a small hustle grew into a thriving venture, earning $50,000 by the time I turned 19.
That experience taught me something profound: people don’t just pay for products or services…
they pay for the way those things make them feel. It wasn’t just the prints that kept students coming back; it was the reliability, the effort, and the sense of relief I provided in a stressful academic environment.
Over the years, I’ve carried this lesson into everything I do. Whether it was building a library of Afrocentric photos used by millions, launching a design school that’s educated over 50,000 students, or creating products that scale across continents, the one constant has been this: experiences matter.
That’s where Amplify & Scale comes in. This concept is my blueprint for designing experiences that not only solve problems but also leave a lasting impact. It’s built on principles like the Peak-End Rule, which explains why we remember the highlights and the endings of our interactions, and the idea of customer-centricity… placing people at the heart of every decision.
The goal of Amplify & Scale is simple but powerful: to help you create moments that resonate and turn those moments into opportunities for growth. It’s about amplifying the highs and ensuring those experiences can be scaled to reach more people, more consistently.
Think about the last time you encountered something truly unforgettable. Maybe it was a product that just worked flawlessly or a service that went above and beyond. Those moments stick with us, not because they’re perfect, but because they strike a chord… they feel intentional, thoughtful, and human.
That’s the kind of impact I want to help you create. Whether you’re building a product, leading a team, or simply trying to stand out in a crowded space, I believe these ideas can transform the way you approach your work.
In this newsletter, I’ll share stories, lessons, and strategies from my own journey and from companies that have mastered the art of exceptional experiences. Together, we’ll explore how to amplify what works, scale it effectively, and overcome the challenges that come with growth.
This is just the start of our conversation about creating experiences that truly matter. If there’s a specific topic or concept you’d like me to dive into, I’d love to hear from you! Let’s shape this journey together.
